About
In essence, trendsetting is risk-taking.
I end up finding a lot of cool things… things I find cool, anyway. I’m not always right, though, so I now have a more cynical view of “Bradtastic Approved.” I suppose that, over time, some brave people get things right a little more often than everyone else and are then consulted on their findings. Then again, some people just get there first. It’s not that their information or delivery is better, or that their ideas are well-founded. Some people just beat everyone else to the punch.
It’s like when we use clichés — those phrases weren’t always so; someone said it first, with good results, and others followed-suit… and then thousands of uses later — it becomes an old saying… stock.
Bradtastica is…?
It’s somewhat generic on purpose — for the moment, anyway. I wanted to register a new domain for a new site called “A cynic plays,” or something else a hipster might buy into. I wanted to do this, because I find myself inspired to write and create art, by of all things, video games.
It’s silliness now to ignore games, say that they “aren’t art,” or pigeonhole them — classifying them as merely the playthings of geeks, nerds, and guys losers without girlfriends dates. The truth is, video games are more profitable than music, movies and TV. Everyone and their grandmothers play video games. I’m sure that someday soon, “videogames” will be accepted by spell-check as a real (single) word.
Personally, I like the culture of the games and the stories behind them. I like reading the interviews with developers, and I love the fact that I can chat with small-scale operations (via Twitter or Facebook intially) during the creation of new games. I suppose this has extended now to apps in general, thanks to the iTunes App Store and Mac App Store. (I don’t own Android and I don’t really use Windows anymore. Nothing personal)
A classification for coolness.
When I find something sweet enough to endorse, use, purchase and/or share, I call it “Bradtastic Approved.” Bradtastica is a website dedicated to those things, the people behind them, and stories, anecdotes and tidbits about ‘Approved stuff.
